Being a cradle Irish Catholic means I was brought up on the idea that life is not all about me. While me and the Romans are not so close anymore, I have held on to the important principle that giving and gratitude for today’s success are essential for any healthy business and indeed person.
So each year around December I look for a project or projects for the year ahead where I give up to ten days of my time with no charge or costs. A person can be a project too.
Usually this is done where I live in the North West of England but I can help you in other parts of the UK especially London or Birmingham, in Oz during January/February time and online anywhere you happen to be. My partner is from an Anglo Indian family so I have a soft spot for India and Asia generally and Belfast as my birthplace makes the A list too. Do not be put off if your are not from these places. They just give you an edge that's all. Best story wins. I do split the ten days.
Three real simple rules to get on my pro bono list:
My latest pro-bono project was supporting a young black social enterprise to offer alternatives and communication skills for disenfranchised youths on the streets and estates of Moss Side.
I have also worked with a variety of community based groups over the years to help them access the political system, shake some money out of the funding regimes or simply to boost their group and individual confidence.
So if you need a turbo blast to your social enterprise or you are changing your communication life get in touch. What are you waiting for Santa Claus?
